The challenge
A former piggery within the AONB off Westridge in Highclere.

A former piggery on the Southern edge of Highclere with access off Westridge. The site is bounded by residential properties on 3 sides and an open field to the West. With the site located within the designated North Wessex Downs Area Of Outstanding Natural Beauty (AONB) the scheme should respond to genuine local need, and built form respect and complement the beauty of the landscape and character.

The proposal
JPP submitted an outline application for 4 dwellings.

The proposed development is consistent with relevant planning policies affecting the AONB. The scheme makes use of the brownfield site and proposes a similar amount of built form with a landscape buffer zone enhancing the verdant nature of Westridge. With a biodiversity net gain proposed and no harm caused to the AONB this character led scheme is in accordance with the Highclere Village Design Statement.

The outcome
Outline planning consent granted for 4 dwellings at local level.

The proposed scheme was recommended for approval at Basingstoke and Deane committee and subsequently granted planning permission locally in September 2020. 

JPP Land sold the consented site to local developer Donnington Homes who have now been granted reserved matters and are developing the homes.
